Critical Perspectives
The critical perspective that men body image applies is cultural criticism because we can see that as a society we have this view of what we look in the male body. For example in many Latinas and Hispanics accept big men more than any other culture. In the article “CONSIDERING THE INFLUENCE OF CULTURE ON BODY IMAGE: A LETTER TO THE EDITOR REGARDING SALMON ET AL.” It stated “, Latino American and African-American men and women were more attracted to overweight individuals than to normal weight individuals and provided many reasons why being larger than normal was something that many of them were okay with and even strived for.”[1] This matters because it really helps us see that many cultural have a very different beliefs and what they see as acceptable in their culture is showing change in the body image of men portray. This is the example that men body image and critical perspective.
